Director's Message

The Centre of Research Expertise in Improved Disability Outcomes (CREIDO) was created by an Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Centre of Expertise grant in January 2007. CREIDO is currently funded by the University Health Network. We are located at the Toronto Western Hospital Med West Building at 750 Dundas Street West.

The vision of CREIDO is to develop “a network of collaborating researchers, clinicians, workers, employers, unions and other stakeholders committed to preventing work-related disability, attaining safe and sustainable (RTW) and improving the health-related quality of life for Ontario workers”. CREIDO currently has scientists, one postdoctoral fellow and students in masters, doctoral and other training programs. In addition, we have a network of scientific collaborators, both internal to and external to the University Health Network.

CREIDO is focused on development, implementation and evaluation of evidence based tools to support safe and sustainable return to work and prevent workplace disability. Our research is participatory and includes stakeholders such as employers, clinicians, union members, injured workers and Health and Safety Associations. CREIDO endorses the biopsychosocial model of health, and we recognize the importance of linking interventions across settings, including the workplace and healthcare. CREIDO is a member of the Knowledge Transfer and Exchange (KTE) HUB hosted by the Institute of Work & Health, and we recognize the importance of engaging stakeholders in the planning, implementation and diffusion of our research projects.

Sincerely,

J. David Cassidy, Ph.D., Dr.Med.Sc.
Director of CREIDO
