The Work Disability Prevention CIHR Strategic Training Program
This advanced training program has been developed in the Université de Sherbrooke and funded since 2002 by the Canadian Institutes for Health research (CIHR). The program is now hosted in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and re-funded by CIHR for six more years. This international training program is intended for researchers in WDP, thereby helps train the trainers in the associated field. It is staffed with thirty mentors from four countries and has already trained more than fifty trainees from twelve countries. This transdisciplinary program gathers trainee’s with deep knowledge in their own discipline and gives them opportunity to experience the width of the WDP field, with respect to associated methodological, sociopolitical and ethical challenges. The core of the program is a two-week June session complemented by e-training, practicum and optional activities as writing articles, making conference presentations and knowledge exchange activities. It has already allowed the development of joint research projects and more than 60 joint articles between mentors, trainees and alumni. The program intends to develop a community of Practice in WDP, joining the community of researchers and stakeholders in this field.
